The 44th Medical Brigade
It was his third year in the army and his second tour of Vietnam.
Ewing's helicopter ambulance was on a medical evacuation mission when the aircraft was hit by weapons fired from a hostile force. It crashed and burned near Chu Lai, 300 miles from Saigon
Christ Church of Cranbrook where Ewing's service was held
David was survived by his parents and brother Larry.
David wanted to get in where he could help his buddies. He had been parking ambulanes on his first tour but he found it boring."
David loved to ski and he planned to continue his schooling at one of these Universities
"I never knew David but I witnessed his sacrifice. He was a member of a Medivac crew who flew into a Hot LZ to get our wounded guys out. His heroism is remembered by many." - Harvey Sullivan
"Dave had a great sense of humor. His mother was active with church school. Dave was an acolyte and carried the cross at church services. His loss is still troubling for many classmates " - Bill Gray
"Dave was, 3, years older, than me, but I knew him, through his younger, brother Larry. They were just a couple of kids, from the neighborhood. I had heard of his death in Viet Nam, a few years after the fact, but never was able to confirm it, until now, (5/26/06) through this project. To any of his family who may see this, know that my memories of him, are good ones. To all who served, thank you." - John Shinnick
Members of the 237 Medical Detachment
"David was a member of the 237 Medical Detachment (HA) when we went overseas as a unit in November 1968. He was a medic. David was a good friend in the short time we knew each other. He was transferred to the 54th dustoff and was KIA on May 22, 1969. It is coming up on the 41st anniversary of his death and I think of him all the time. I have visited his grave at Arlington and we will remember him at our unit reunion in August. Rest in peace brother." - Richard Villa

I am not sure as it has been 50 years since AIT at ft Sam Houston if this is Dave I knew as a pal back then? Would have been perhaps Mar or April we were stationed together. Scrappy little guy about 5'7( my size)
